Stats on Pats Weekly -
New England 56, Buffalo 7. What the Hell Else is New?

I’m running out of things to say about the 2007 New England Patriots, or at least things any other media outlet isn’t saying about them. Maybe I should just make a template with player names with blanks for touchdowns and fill in the numbers. I shanked another one by giving Buffalo half a chance to make it interesting this week, counting on heart and pride to win out over injuries and inferiority. Instead the Patriots dropped 56 points on the Bills en route to setting a franchise record for points scored. Tom and Randy hooked up four more times for TDs and Brady tossed another to TE Ben Watson, while Laurence Maroney found the end zone for the first time this year and rookie FB Kyle Eckel punched in his second TD of the year.
The frightful efficiency of the New England offense has become an afterthought to the national debate over their gridiron decorum. Belichick defended his trigger-happy play calls in post game press conferences once again, reiterating that going on fourth down with a three score lead simply gives opponents another chance to stop him rather than cash in on automatic field goal points.

Moss and Brady already loom large in NFL history. How big can they get?
I might be biased as a Pats fan, but I can’t say I feel for these crybaby teams. To be honest, the mercy rule in Little League always frustrated me (and I was usually on the losing end). I wanted to play the game. Isn’t it more embarrassing for an opponent to let up and basically say “Look, we don’t really have to try anymore to beat you.” That’s exactly what’s wonderfully poetic about the way the Patriots are stomping teams. In order to show opponents the utmost respect they must completely demoralize them.
Let me counter that zeal for annihilation with some cold logic so I don’t come off as a homer. Expect teams to start head-hunting for Brady and don’t fault them for it. The Patriots play at a hundred miles per hour, inside and outside the lines, and do what they need to win. That might just be the only answer for messes like Philadelphia, who might finally be able to bench the injury-riddle and sheepish Donovan McNabb in favor of perennial backup A.J. Feely. The spread this week is 22 points and I’m calling for the Pats to cover easily. Brady might just break the single game TD passing record. It has to happen sometime.
