Latest from the wire: United States Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez announced his resignation today. Coupled with the resignation of presidential advisor Karl Rove, I can honestly say Christmas has come early.
Now, if Vice President Dick Cheney were to announce his resignation and apologize for all of his hypocrisies, I'd be saying HAPPY FUCKING NEW YEAR! and tossing my clothes for monk's robes to spend some time cavebound in New Hampshire's White Mountains.
How much time, you ask? As much as necessary.
Of course, such a fantasy is only wishful thinking. I could live hermit-like in some deserted wilderness outpost. But is it really feasible? What about my kids? What about my 401k? Though both are nonexistent, they'd suffer under my absence. After all: Neither can exist without my existence.
Which brings us back to the resignation of Alberto. As the Attorney General of the United States, Alberto was the head of the executive Department of Justice and the chief law enforcement officer of the Fed. As such, the man is supposed to be politically fair and blind, like the female avatar of justice. Like Batman, he's supposed to be of higher moral character than the average man. His are the matters of enforcement of the law: Not judgment thereof.
Alberto was anything but politically blind. More a neo-Con puppet, Al did as he was told. He's currently under investigation for the dismissal of eight federal prosecutors. The fired prosecutors, as well as Congress, claim the firings were politically motivated. Al's been continually evasive during Congressional questioning on the matter, using the terms, "I don't know," and, "I can't recall," so often that this writer has asked, "Just what does this guy know? Anything?"

Adios, Muchacha!
Gonzalez is a shady shitball that went so far as to creep into the intensive care recovery unit of former AG John Ashcroft and ask him to reauthorize the not-so-top-secret domestic spying program. Ashcroft, though doped up and, according to some, in grave condition, did the most respectable thing in his tenure by turning Alberto down.
Obviously, the man is of suspect credibility and of the highest douchebag quality. And though Democrats and Republicans alike have come down hard on Al and called for his dismissal or resignation, our fearless leader backed him to the end. Today, Bush said the AG's resignation was directly related to political mudslinging. That Gonzalez', "good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons."
Right, George. The ultra powerful liberal majority is taking down yet another right wing innocent. Tell us another bedtime story. How about that one about WMDs? Or the "mission accomplished" story? Or about how you saved New Orleans? Or….
