It's been a weird summer. For the past three years, I've been on Martha's
Vineyard, drinking an obscene amount and partying nightly. I can compare the
debauchery to just one experience: My only Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale,
Florida in March of 2003. And that lasted a week.
In partying comparison, this summer has been absolutely pussy. Minus a few
memorable exceptions, I get out on the town once a week. My drinking,
contrary to the beliefs of a very vocal few, has been curbed to the point of
near non-existence – At least when compared with my drinking in previous
years. I can say with all honestly that this is the closest I've ever been
to being a teetotaler since the beginning of the summer of my seventeenth
year.
And I'm getting a little sick of it. I like to drink. I like to party. But I
do not like to do either while driving. Therein lies the issue. One has to
drive too far to have a few drinks in this town. There's no walking to the
bars around here. And the last thing I need is a DUI under my belt.
Unless you're Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton, getting a DUI isn't a good
idea. DUIs (or deweys, as I affectionately call them) are membership cards
to the exclusive celebrity club. You're just not cool if you don't have one
AND a rehab stint or two under your belt.
But I digress. We were talking about how I'm much more miserable than usual
because I'm not partying on Martha's Vineyard.
Well, not all is dreary. Finally, the Craig Cares video project, entitled
"No Holding Back", is in the production stage. We've cut the intro clip and
shown it to test audiences. Reactions were mixed. But everyone thought it
funny… in a very weird way. Since that is what we're going for, I'm calling
it an early success.
So keep checking back to southcoast247.com for updates on "No Holding Back".
